What you need to know about our Sand

Pristine white sand is a staple of Floridian life and culture. Everglades partners with supplies carefully to make sure that they prioritize the sustainable harvesting of natural resources and their staffs’ safety. Florida sand is very high quality due to the characteristics of our land. A process called “subaerial wreathing” occurs naturally were rainwater flows down through all the layers of earth and reacts chemically with impurities in the sand and over time washes them out. Our white sand is primarily made of Quartz, also known as Crystalline Silica, that is clear and white and is grinds to a very fine consistency. Landscape features could use white sand in a variety of manners that improve the quality of plant’s health and the aesthetic appeal of the feature.

White sand is a versatile and aesthetically attractive option as element in a landscape feature. Its uses are not limited to just acting as a soil cover. By its nature sand is don’t not retain much water allowing most of the water to pass through it. This makes sand a great low-cost base for landscape features that require some extra drainage in order to reduce the chance of problems from overly wet soil, like root rot, from harming plants. Additionally, sand is best used as a growing medium for plants that require their roots to have a dry environment such as succulents. The fine texture of our white sand makes it ideal for volleyball courts because sand helps with softening impacts and does not retain much heat from the sun allowing it to cool down quickly. The very fine texture creates a comfortable feeling when walking over it barefooted. Children’s playgrounds are often covered with sand due to its impact reduction and the fact that with a little bit of water it can become a temporary building material.

Golf courses also prefer the use of quartz white sand in their sand traps because it is very easy to maintain. White sand has looks smooth when applied in a sand trap and creates a nice shimmering effect as sun hits it. Also, it provides a great experience to golfers due to how easy it is to walk on while remained loose enough to make getting out of the trap challenging. It is recommended to create sand traps with a grass barrier over the rim to reduce sand loss due to wind. Our sand is often used as the foundation for pavers and is mixed often with additives to create polymeric sand; a hardened material that prevents weeds, insects, or water from displacing pavers.
