In a landmark collaboration, Everglades Equipment Group has teamed up with the Sumter County Farm Bureau to address mental health and suicide prevention within the agricultural community.
On Saturday, May 4, we unveiled a pioneering initiative aimed at destigmatizing mental health conversations in farming. Every Everglades Equipment Group John Deere CAB Tractor sold across Florida will now feature a decal showcasing the 988 suicide prevention and lifeline hotline, ensuring that crucial support is readily available to those in need.
"At Everglades Equipment Group, we understand the unique challenges faced by farmers," said Tommie Peebles, III, Site Manager of Everglades Equipment Group in Leesburg, Fla. "By integrating mental health awareness into the fabric of farm life, we aim to create a culture where seeking help is encouraged and accepted."
Studies have shown that the suicide rate among farmers and ranchers is 3.5 times higher than in other professions. Focusing on the well-being of these individuals who provide the nation's food, fiber, and products is essential for the sustainability of agriculture.
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free and confidential emotional support to individuals in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24/7 in the United States. To complement the initiative, Farm Bureau has created a flyer with signs to look for in those who may be struggling, along with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number and resources like the AFBF Farm State of Mind Resource directory.
Everglades Equipment Group, as a premier provider of agricultural equipment and services in Florida, is dedicated to empowering farmers with the tools and resources they need to thrive. We are proud to partner with the Farm Bureau to address mental health issues within the agricultural community.
